My son was driving on the 405 freeway north in the carpool lane at 65 m.p.h., yesterday , Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000. The left rear tire had a catastrophic failure and the tread separated from the tire and actually passed him up. He was driving our 1994 Toyota Camry, with 25,000 miles on Firestone Firehawk tires SH30, P205/65r15/92h. These tires are not on the recall list.
Attached, please find 3 pictures and note the ample remaining tread. If it weren't for my son's skilled handling of the automobile, a tradgedy could have easily occurred.
