Recall Overview

Patrick W. from Laughlin, Nevada

DOT Tire Number: W273

Date of Accident.: 09-28-2000

I had Firestone Wilderness AT' P265/75R16-114S M&S tires that came as 'original equipment' on my '99' Chev. K-1500 P/U, Silverado. Tires had less than 27,000 miles, had experienced no previous punctures or other failures, were routinely inspected and maintained at recommended (35 psi) air pressure. I had been driving for approximately one hour at highway speeds (60-70 mph), weather conditions were clear, dry, temperature 95-100 deg., when the tread of the left rear tire underwent complete (360 deg.) separation from the rest of the tire. No accident or damage (other than to the affected tire) resulted from this incident but I would no longer consider any 'Firestone' tire safe to drive on. All four tires that were on the vehicle at the time have been removed but are available for inspection if circumstances warrant.
